A favorite of my customers because he is just so cute. And while I personally think cormorants are really cool, cormorants are generally not cute. Along the Texas coast, they generally don't like to be close to anything, even other cormorants should keep a distance. But humans... Humans are really not too welcome. Unlike the Pelagic cormorants in California, one is generally lucky to get within 40 feet of the Texas birds (Unless you are driving by at 60 mph in a car). I worked with this bird for well over an hour, frequently talking to him, getting him curious in me, and the funny looking thing (camera) in my hands. He eventually let me stay less than four feet from him. However, I got this shot from about 11 feet. The perspective feel and the expression on the birds face was better. This print lends itself to framing full size or as an 8x10 or 11x14, respectively. |
